Advocacy Committee
At Tampa Bay Healthcare Collaborative (TBHC) we believe that health is a primary public good that benefits families, communities, employers, businesses, and our country. To that end, we envision healthcare as a basic human right necessary for stable and productive communities.
The Advocacy Committee works towards this vision through its promotion of the following cornerstones of a healthy community:
Access
Access to quality health services begins with having affordable health insurance. We advocate for comprehensive health services for everyone in our community and pledge to help remove social, racial, economic, and systemic barriers to health services.
Health
Good health means more than the absence of disease. Good health is achieved with positive conditions at the physical, mental, behavioral, emotional, and spiritual levels. We will work to expand the concept of health to include all primary, community-based prevention, acute, chronic, and long-term care services in physical, mental, and oral health.
Wellness
Because health ultimately occurs at an individual level, communities and individuals are responsible for decisions and behaviors that impact levels of wellness. We endorse the need to educate people to help them understand the impact of their behavior and decisions.
Safety
Building safe and secure communities is vital to achieving better health and wellness. Incidents of child maltreatment, intimate partner domestic violence, and sexual violence must be reduced to achieve healthy communities. We endorse efforts designed to reduce incidents of violence in our homes, streets, and communities.
