History
Tampa Bay Healthcare Collaborative (TBHC) is a unique entity of Tampa Bay’s top advocates of the healthcare-underserved – no other entity in Tampa Bay has a similar membership. We are 75+ members strong and growing!
Our focus is on Tampa Bay’s healthcare-underserved, and our members who address the healthcare-underserved. TBHC’s work in advocacy, wellness, Health Equity, and volunteerism in Tampa Bay’s healthcare industry is done through four committees: Advocacy, Health Equity, Volunteers For Health and Wellness.
TBHC formed in the summer of 2001 stemming from a series of discussions with organizations that had or were being funded by Allegany Franciscan Ministries, Tampa Bay, Inc. This inaugural conversation centered on the need for a comprehensive, coordinated delivery process for community health and human services for the underserved populations in Pinellas and Hillsborough counties. Approximately 50 representatives from Bay area foundations, hospitals, clinics, community-based organizations, public health programs, family service centers, homeless projects, mental health programs and faith communities joined together at this inaugural event to define preliminary mission, goals and objectives for the Tampa Bay Healthcare Collaborative.
Our Focus
Activities that increase options for the marginalized and disenfranchised populations in the Tampa Bay area by strengthening member organizations and building capacity to support activities that meet the health care needs of our community.
The Tampa Bay Healthcare Collaborative is designed to promote health, wellness, and safety of individuals in our community through coordinating existing resources and promoting increased access to healthcare. Our activities include working together to seek funding for projects identified to meet unmet critical community needs. The Collaborative also works to remove social, racial, economic, and systemic barriers to healthcare services for the uninsured and underserved while working together to strengthen the safety net serving these populations.
We are a group of community agencies concerned and impacted by the failures of our current healthcare system. Our members are healthcare providers, domestic violence centers, free clinics, homeless shelters, and social service agencies challenged on a daily basis assisting those who can not effectively access our world-class healthcare system. Members come from Hillsborough and Pinellas counties in Florida and work together to bring attention to the issue of the uninsured. At the same time, we are trying to expand resources to meet the immediate needs of those who have no other healthcare options.
