  Advocacy Initiative

Tampa Bay Healthcare Collaborative (TBHC) supports its member and community agencies by promoting awareness and dialogue around the issue of the uninsured. We also seek to give a voice to our community and advocate for resources to be healthy.

For Tampa Bay Healthcare Collaborative members this means focusing on four key areas: Access, Health, Wellness and Safety.

Access
Access to quality health services begins with having affordable health insurance. We advocate for comprehensive health services for everyone in our community. We will work to help remove social, racial, economic, and systemic barriers to health services.

Health
Good health means more than the absence of disease. Good health is achieved with positive conditions at the physical, mental, behavioral, emotional, and spiritual levels. We will work to expand the concept of health to include all primary, community-based prevention, acute, chronic, and long-term care services in physical, mental, and oral health.

Wellness
Because health ultimately occurs at an individual level, communities and individuals are responsible for decisions and behaviors that impact levels of wellness. We endorse the need to educate people to help them understand the impact of their behavior and decisions.

Safety
Building safe and secure communities is vital to achieving better health and wellness. Incidents of child maltreatment, intimate partner domestic violence, and sexual violence must be reduced to achieve healthy communities. We endorse efforts designed to reduce incidents of violence in our homes, streets, and communities.

Each year our Advocacy Committee commits to bringing national experts in the advocacy field to Tampa Bay. Past capacity building trainings have included "Worry Free Advocacy" in conjunction with Alliance for Justice and "Building Your Advocacy Campaign" in cooperation with the Children's Campaign.
